Teaser Tuesday for January 14th

Teaser Tuesday

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by MizB at “Should Be Reading.” The rules are simple if you want to play along:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Today I am really really really excited because a new book just popped up on my Kindle – Hollow City by Ransom Riggs! I haven’t even started it yet, but for my teaser, I shall share with you the first two sentences.

We rowed out through the harbor, past bobbing boats weeping rust from their seams, past juries of silent seabirds roosting atop the barnacled remains of sunken docks, past fishermen who lowered their nets to stare frozenly as we slipped by, uncertain whether we were real or imagined; a procession of waterborne ghosts, or ghosts soon to be. We were ten children and one bird in three small and unsteady boats, rowing with  quiet intensity straight out to sea, the only safe harbor for miles receding quickly behind us, craggy and magical in the blue-gold light of dawn.

Hollow City by Ransom Riggs

Wow. Okay, so it looks like this picks up right where Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children left off. Holy crap, I can’t wait to read this!

Ahem. Sorry. I’m just a little bit excited.

So if you have any teasers for today, please leave them in comments. No Top Ten Tuesday for me today, since the topic is about 2014 debuts and I really couldn’t think of very many.

    • I know I would! Riggs is a wonderfully visual writer, probably because of his obsession with rare and obscure photographs. It’s part of why I loved the first book so much.
