Podcast Love!

In connection with a secret project that I am about to embark on, I decided to bring up the subject of podcasts. I adore listening to podcasts. Most of my work day is spent listening to them, so I thought I would share some of my favorites.

1). The Morning Stream – This is a great show, hosted by Scott Johnson and Brian Ibbott. It is streamed live on their website, so you have that same great timing that you get from a live radio show, and is on Monday through Thursday each week. Topics range from current events to comic books, movies to music, the latest technology to the weirdest stuff found on the Web. I think what really makes this show is the camaraderie between Scott and Brian. They are good friends and unashamedly some of the geekiest people ever to podcast. Which is what makes them awesome.

2). Bob & Sheri – This is a syndicated radio show that is broadcast all over the country. I first started listening to them over 10 years ago, so that should say something about how much I love them. I was so excited to find out that they release their shows in podcast format so that I could listen to the whole thing. Their show is sharp, witty, at times hilarious, at times heartwarming. Again, it’s the friendship between the hosts, not just Bob and Sheri, but also Max and Todd and Lamar and all the others who help put on such a great show. They really make my morning.

3). I Should Be Writing – This is a must for any aspiring writers out there. On this show, Mur Lafferty talks us through the ups and downs of being a writer. The show provides excellent advice, words of encouragement to writers who might be doubting themselves, along with a good dose of tough love. Plus, there are lots of interviews with authors, editors, and other people in the publishing world. These are always very well done and provide lots of good tips for how to keep writing no matter what.

4). Books On The Nightstand – To be honest, there is only one reason I chose this podcast out of other book related shows: my husband’s nightstand looks just like their album art. It is overflowing with books (called “the Stack,” some of which he might read some day). I thought the title was funny, so I decided to download it. I’m so glad that I did! The show is hosted by Michael Kindness and Ann Kingman, who both work for Random House. They share lots of book reviews and other book related discussions, supported by a very active group over at Goodreads. I’ve gotten many a good recommendation from their show.

There are several more that I listen to, but these are definitely my favorites. Do any of you listen to podcasts? If so, which ones to you enjoy?
